Spices in coffee to pamper yourself

Explore how to add spices in your coffee to create unique and aromatic drinks. Try our delicious recipes to pamper yourself every day.

Coffee is a ritual, a moment of daily pleasure that we can enrich and customise. Adding spices to coffee not only enhances its taste, but turns each cup into a unique sensory experience. In this article, we will explore together how to choose the right blend and some delicious recipes for flavouring coffee with spices, to give you a moment of pampering and relaxation.

Choosing the right blend

Choosing the right blend is the first step in creating a perfect coffee. There are two main types of coffee: Arabica, with its delicate and aromatic taste, and Robusta, with its stronger and more intense flavour. Many blends combine these two varieties to balance their characteristics.

Arabica contains about half as much caffeine as Robusta, making it suitable for those seeking a lighter coffee. For those who need to avoid caffeine, decaffeinated options are a good choice, or alternatively barley-based blends, which are naturally caffeine-free.

Some recipes worth to try

For those who want to experiment with new flavours and aromas, we have selected some recipes that combine coffee and spices in surprising and delicious ways. Here are four variations to try to enrich your coffee routine.

  • Cardamom mocha coffee

Ingredients for a 4-person mocha: 3 cardamom capsules, mocha coffee blend.

Crush the cardamom pods to extract the black seeds. Brew the coffee with the mocha as usual, adding the seeds to the filter. Alternatively, you can put some seeds in the bottom of the cups and pour the boiling coffee over them, letting it sit for a few moments. The seeds will remain at the bottom, releasing their aroma.

  • Aniseed barley

Ingredients for 100 g ground barley: 100 g roasted and ground barley, 15 g aniseed.

Crush the aniseed seeds in a mortar to a fine powder. Mix it with the barley and let it rest for at least three days in a hermetically sealed jar, stirring occasionally. Brew the barley coffee in the mocha or barley pot, as usual, and sweeten to taste with brown sugar or honey. The aniseed adds a sweet and slightly liqueur-like note.

  • Cereal coffee

Ingredients for approx. 120 g cereal coffee powder: 100 g soluble cereal coffee, 2 tablespoons bitter cocoa powder, 1 vanilla pod.

Mix the cereal coffee with the cocoa powder. Put everything in a jar together with the vanilla pod. After about a week, remove the vanilla and use the mixture with water, hot milk or vegetable drinks. The cocoa adds a mouth-watering touch, while the vanilla adds sweetness and roundness.

  • Orange-flavoured coffee

Ingredients for approx. 100 g ground coffee: 100 g mocha or espresso coffee, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 cloves, 1 star anise seed, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon ginger powder, 1 piece of dried orange peel.

Coarsely crush cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Combine the nutmeg, powdered ginger and orange peel, placing everything in a gauze bag. Mix half of the coffee in a jar, add the bag of spices and cover with the remaining coffee. Let it sit for at least a week. After removing the bag, brew the coffee as usual. The result will be an aromatic and spicy coffee, perfect for winter days.

Flavouring your coffee with spices is an easy and creative way to turn your daily routine into a special moment. Whether you prefer exotic cardamom, sweet anise, mouth-watering cocoa or the spicy notes of orange, there is a recipe that will suit you. Try these delicious variations and discover how each cup of coffee can become a unique sensory experience, perfect for pampering yourself at any time of day.
